Making Your New Year Resolutions Stick!

Each January, we begin the year with a slew of promises to ourselves – promises to eat better, to exercise more, to get more rest. Sadly, what happens by the end of February? If you’re like most people, you’ve given up on your goals and your determination to make this year different.

The New Year is a time that we devote to self-reflection and resolutions that we intend to keep, but very often don’t. I’ve learned that designating results to one moment is a recipe for failure. It’s similar to crash dieting to fit an outfit you plan to wear in one week.

What about when we lose the resolve to see those resolutions through? We fall into traps of self-doubt and end up sabotaging our best efforts before we even give them a chance to succeed.

Why do we do this? I believe it’s because so often, we focus on results instead of changing our habits.

Our New Year’s declarations fail because they don’t emerge from true breakthroughs. As we approach 2018, don’t let this be your story. Be willing to do the work it takes to get the outcome you want!

Making small changes in what you do every day is a more sure way to see success! Wanting to lose 50 pounds? Break down your goal into much smaller, more manageable chunks. Focus on setting tangible mini-goals to lose a few pounds each month, as well as the dates on which you aim to accomplish them. Then as you hit each milestone, celebrate! Every small victory will motivate you to keep pushing even harder. Before long, you’ll see that your target isn’t as far away as you originally believed.

As you strive to redefine your outward appearance, don’t neglect your inner self. Your emotional and spiritual tranquility is just as important as your physical health, so be sure that your commitments in this upcoming season allow time for more reflection, meditation and prayer. As you do this, both your body and soul will thank you!

So, cheers to bringing in the New Year with concrete resolutions and sticking to them! I can’t wait to see the improved, healthier, whole and happy you!
